Short version: you can play without an account, and your answers are counted anonymously. If you choose to sign in with Google, we keep your email address, a username and your verdicts. We only email you about news if you tick the box. No ads, no tracking.

When you answer a question

Your browser sends us the quiz day, the question, the answer you picked and a random play code. We store those and the time, so we can show how everyone answered.

  • The play code is made up by your browser for that day’s quiz. It only exists so that changing an answer (with Back, or by playing again) replaces your old answer instead of counting twice.
  • Answers are never linked to your account, your email or your name, even when you are signed in. We record only the day an answer was given, not the time.
  • Other players only ever see the shape of the crowd: bars with no names and no numbers.

Your verdicts

Your verdicts are saved in your own browser (local storage), so the site can show “Your verdicts” and your weekly verdict. Clearing your browser data deletes them from that browser.

If you sign in with Google

Signing in is optional, and accounts are for people aged 13 and over. It keeps your verdicts on every device you sign in on. When you sign in, Google tells us a code for your Google account and your email address. Google doesn’t share your name, photo or contacts with us, and Google sees that you signed in to youwouldn’t.

We store:

  • the Google account code and your email address, so we can recognise you next time;
  • the username you choose (other players may see it in future features);
  • the verdicts you save, with the quiz day and when you played;
  • your email-news choice (see below), and when you created and last used your account.

One cookie keeps you signed in. It is needed for signing in to work, so we don’t ask about it. It lasts 60 days or until you sign out. A second, short-lived cookie (15 minutes) protects the sign-in step itself.

On Your verdicts you can download everything we hold about you, sign out, or delete your account. Deleting it removes your account and saved verdicts straight away (see backups below). Signing out also removes that account’s verdicts from the browser you used.

Legal basis: providing the account you asked for (UK GDPR and EU GDPR Article 6(1)(b)).

Email news (only if you ask for it)

If you tick “Email me about new quizzes and updates” when you sign up, or turn it on in Your verdicts, we may email you about new quizzes and changes to youwouldn’t. We record the wording you agreed to and when. Turn it off any time in Your verdicts, and every email will have a way to stop them too. If we use an email service to send them, we’ll name it here before the first email.

We never sell or share your email address, and we don’t use it for anything else except important messages about your account.

Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time.

How long we keep things

  • Accounts and saved verdicts: until you delete your account, or after 2 years without signing in.
  • Sign-ups never finished (no username picked): deleted within about a day.
  • Sign-in sessions: 60 days, or until you sign out.
  • Your email-news choice and the wording you agreed to: as long as your account exists.
  • Anonymous answer counts: kept, because they can’t identify anyone.
  • Backups: our database keeps a rolling 30-day history for recovery, so deleted data can remain there for up to 30 days before it’s gone for good.

Spam protection

To stop one person sending thousands of answers, the server briefly checks how many answers come from the same internet address in a minute. This happens in memory and the address is not saved.

Hosting

The site runs on Cloudflare, which stores our data and processes it for us under its data processing terms. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles your requests to deliver the pages and may keep short-lived technical logs to keep the service secure and running. Cloudflare serves the site from data centres around the world, so your data may be handled outside the UK and the EU; Cloudflare covers those transfers with standard contractual clauses.

Cookies and tracking

The only cookies are the two sign-in cookies above, and only if you sign in. There are no analytics, no ads and no third-party scripts. Fonts and pictures are served from this site.

Your rights

You have the right to see your data, get a copy in a portable format, correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, object to how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time. You can do most of this yourself in Your verdicts; for anything else, email us. You can also complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO).
